Pimlico Elementary School Is About to Receive A Major Facelift
As part of the Baltimore City School System Pimlico Elementary School is preparing to undergo a complete renovation. As part of the cities plans to improve it’s educational program the Baltimore City Department of Education approved a budget that allows the school to receive a much need upgrade. Plans for Pimlico Elementary School also include a 40,000 square foot addition to connect directly to the schools existing structure to accommodate its’ growing population.
Project Designers are concerned about preserving the school buildings historical appearance. The schools gym, which was built in 1924 isn’t quite large enough to support the schools athletic program. Therefore it will be transformed into a media center. Plans for the the media center include open ceilings and large windows. This will provide natural lighting for students. The schools features include a newly redesigned dining room along with an enlarged kitchen area. There are plans to build a new gym as part of the schools new addition. Parking along Pimlico Road has been eliminated. Project leaders believe this will provide an opportunity for the existing building to be the primary main focus of the project. The schools surrounding landscape and play areas have been designed to provide formal learning spaces as well as a play area for students to use during after school hours.
Scope of WorkThe General Contractor Dustin Construction contacted our team and asked if would install a combination of spray foam insulation and a transition membrane. Our team is scheduled to start working on the project later in 2017. A transition membrane is best described as a flexible air barrier membrane. It’s used on vertical above grade wall construction projects over properly prepared concrete. The Spray foam insulation will serve as an insulating air barrier system.
