School’s in session…or, at least, it will be.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is currently in the process of having a new middle school constructed in the Bethesda-Chevy Chase region of Montgomery County, MD.

With all seven elementary schools in the school zone currently attending Westland Middle School and the growing amount of students (225 since 2007), a new middle school facility is in high demand to alleviate overcrowding. The new middle school (currently without a name) will accommodate 944 students and is expected to be opened in August 2017.

Scope of Work

For the design, MCPS called upon Samaha Associates, PC. The overall vision for the new institution is to increase the amount of space while also making child supervision an easier task for faculty and administration. A key component of the new building that will help achieve these goals is the inclusion of 12 additional classrooms to the masterplan.

As far as building enveloping, a major goal of the facility was to, of course, be a welcoming and comfortable environment for the entire student body. To fulfill this expectation, Cameron Building Envelope Specialists installed air barrier systems and applied spray foam insulation across the 155,000 square foot project site.
